It's been awhile, huh? Sorry... it has been an interesting July here. Four weeks ago yesterday, I went to dinner with some friends, and the night ended with me in the back of an ambulance on the way to the ER... I was having chest pains and couldn't breathe. Lots of excitement for Girls Night Out!!
After two weeks of nausea, bloodwork, two (negative!) pregnancy tests, an ultrasound, an MRI, and an appointment with a surgeon, the doctors concluded that I had gall stones and that my gall bladder needed to come out. Crazy, crazy, crazy. I pictured 50-somethings having their gall bladders removed, not a 30-something!
So, last week I had the surgery, one night in the hospital, and a week in bed. I am still sore, still on restricted activity and will be for at least another two weeks. Looking back, I have to say I have an amazing husband, wonderful family, and some of the best friends in the world. Two friends stayed with me in the ER until midnight and even took my prescriptions to the pharmacy long after they should have been in bed. I have friends who came to my house bearing meals and flowers, friends who came to my house to take care of me, and friends who came to my house to care for my children while I sat idly by.
I have family who came to take care of my children, toting them to and from camp, taking them to the beach so I could rest, and family who were there to hold my hand in the hosiptal. There was family sending email and family sending flowers... all of them sending prayers.
I have a husband who took care of my every need, every second of the day for over a month and who continues to do so while I recover. He took care of me in the ER. He took time off work so I could be at the many doctor's appointments and even joined me for several. He cared for me at the hospital and was my advocate when I couldn't speak. He made me the most yummy grits I have ever eaten. He has lovingly and patiently cared for my children while I couldn't, and he continues to do the jobs that I still can't do... the laundry, the grocery shopping, etc. I have been so touched by his love and care of me and my children.
What I really want is to say thank you to all of you who have so lovingly offered your time, your words, your love, and your prayers during the past month. I rest secure every night in the strength of my family and my friendships.
