You don't raise heroes; you raise sons. And if you treat them like sons, they'll turn out to be heroes, even if it's just in your own eyes. ~ Walter Schirra Sr.

Family
I know that I have been a slack blogger lately, and I am sorry. For some reason, I just couldn't do it. Partly because I feel like I have even less time to myself to blog, and partly because I just couldn't. Not so much blogger's block as just not wanting to take the time to do it. I would still constantly think of blog entries, but I just couldn't make myself sit down and blog. Also, I wasn't sure I wanted to share it all with the world, but as Jason says, I need to do it for my boys and family at the least. SO, I am going to try my best to get back into the habit.
I feel a bit overwhelmed by all of the events that I haven't blogged. So, I think I might just try to continue on and keep up with summer's events and post the older events that I missed along the way, as I have time (and energy). These are just some sweet family pictures along the way...

Ten Things
I was tagged (ages ago!) by Caroline to play this little game... ten things about me...
1. My dad says there are three kinds of people: blue, green and gray. Blue people are drawn to the water, green to the country, and gray to the city. I am definitely a blue person. I started water skiing and competitively swimming and diving at 6 years old. I grew up sailing and boating. Although I already knew how to sail and dive, I would always take Sailing and Diving classes at camp, just so I could be on the water. I have loved every second of living on the coast, crossing bridges every time I drive somewhere, and never being more than a 5 minute drive to a body of water. I could sit and watch the fish jump in the pond out back all day long. While I love seeing all of the little towns on my trips with my dad, my favorite part of the trip is watching the water and the scenery change along the way. I think if I believed in reincarnation, I would want to come back as a dolphin...
2. I am a major science nerd at heart. I still remember the names of the parasites, viruses, and bacteria that I studied in undergrad and grad school. (It makes me particularly cautious about cooking and my kitchen!) I love reading the science articles in the news, and it makes me cringe to hear people confuse bacteria and viruses. Sometimes I wonder if I should have been a science teacher.
3. I love thunderstorms on the water. When I was little, my dad and I used to sit on the porch at my grandparents' lake house and watch the storms come across the lake... it was one of the most incredible things I have seen.
4. I love being by myself... I think my life can be so chaotic that I crave the peace. I think that's one reason I love running and swimming as much as I do... being totally alone in my head. Not that I don't love being with my friends and family, but sometimes I need an "Amanda Night". I love a long drive in the car, blaring my music, and singing my heart out. I recently went to a movie by myself, and honestly, I loved it... I loved that I was doing something totally for and by myself.
5. I wish I had taken time off to travel when I was younger. I have been to some incredible places in my life, but I feel like I have not even scratched the surface. I felt a twinge of jealousy recently when Jackson's teacher told me that she was going to Peru with her mom to climb the Andes Mountains and that she was spending the summer camping out in Hawaii, teaching teenagers to hike, surf, scuba dive... what a life. I am going to be an incredibly active retiree!!
6. Elton John is my favorite singer and has been since I was in middle school. While his newer stuff isn't my favorite, I could listen to his albums from the 70's and 80's for hours.
7. My favorite color is blue (I guess it goes back to #1!). When I was little, I picked it because my eyes are blue, but now, it is just my color (and Harris', too!).
8. I have been to Spain three times, and I would really like to go back again and again. I went twice in high school to live with Spanish families, and I went with my mom after I graduated from Clemson. I'm not sure what it was, but I loved it .
9. Mowing the lawn is one of my favorite summer chores. Crazy, I know, but I appreciate the time alone with my iPod, and I love to look back and see the progress I have made. The exercise is great, too...
10. I want to start a foundation... just a small one, to help send children of servicemen stationed overseas to summer camp. I'd like to be able to provide the tuition, camping supplies, and care packages for when they are there. Hopefully someday I'll have the time and energy to really research how to do it and to find the funding.
I'm supposed to tag someone else to play along, but I'm not sure who hasn't been tagged already... Scott? Rossi? Anyone else want to play???
