Camp Thoughts

It is a crazy time here, packing and getting ready for various trips. I have had so much on my mind that I feel like my head is spinning! Completed health forms, air in the stroller tires, flashlights, cleaning the house, laundry... aaahhhh! It is all good, though, as I am excited for what the next two weeks hold.

Jackson and I are getting ready to head to Camp Greenville tomorrow for a Mommy & Me session. I am so excited to introduce Jackson to all things "camp"... to the mountains, to the hiking, to the horeseback riding, to the canoeing, to the bunkbeds, to the dining hall experience, but especially to the people. I know that he is going to have the best time, and I am looking forward to seeing all of the smiles on his face as he tries all of these new things.

I think I have mentioned that I worked there for several summers in several different positions. I was a cabin councelor, rock climbing "specialist", waterfront director, and volunteer with many other odd jobs thrown in. What I probably haven't mentioned is what a special place this is, with many, many special people. The love and respect with which the staff treats the children is amazing. Working at camp is an experience unlike any other. The isolation from the outside world is kind of like working on the moon... we were so cut off from everything. Your co-workers become your family, and in a relatively short period, you have friends that span the globe and that last a lifetime, regardless of how often you talk. I miss those days and those people, and I am so looking forward to creating new memories up there with my family. I have to admit, though, that while we are there, I might be a little jealous of the staff as I remember all of my fun Camp Greenville Staff days!

I know y'all are going to have a wonderful time. I am so jealous and can't wait to be able to do these things with my boys. We'll count the minutes until we get to hear all the fun stories!
