Race for the Cure

On Saturday morning, I woke up early to join Nancy, Caroline, Dorothy, and Aileen at the Race for the Cure. It was a beautiful morning for a run to support breast cancer survivors and to raise money for breast cancer research.
It was the first race I have done since the terrible race in Morehead City in April, so I was a bit nervous. I did well, though, and finished it in about the same time as last year (29.15).
It was Caroline's first race since she was pregnant with Pinckney, and she did a fabulous job... it won't be long before those long legs of hers will be outstriding me! I was super-excited for Aileen, as she ran the race almost two minutes faster than last year... so impressive!!
Dorothy and Nancy were probably the smartest of us all and walked the race... I'm sure that they enjoyed the course way more than I did!
It was such a nice morning with friends and a great way to celebrate and honor those who have dealt with breast cancer in one way or another. Hopefully next year our group will grow even more...

Wheels

With the beatiful weather, the boys have enjoyed playing outside, especially with anything that has wheels. Jackson has totally fallen in love with his bike, and one of his favorite things is to ride around the block or to the park. Haris will not be outdone, and while Jackson's bike is a litle big yet, he is trying. I think I can predict what Santa will bring for him this year...The Big Wheel is a big hit, too,
and even the stroller has its appeal.
Potty break! It was so nice a couple of weeks ago that Nana and I took them for a ride over the big big bridge! Both boys loved the ride and the views, as did Nana and I (it was quite a workout pushing them up and over the bridge!).

While I wouldn't mind the weather to cool down a few degrees, I am loving this October weather and all of the time we can spend outside!

Canoe Rides

I love living on the pond! On Saturday afternoon, we drug the canoe out, and I took the boys for rides. Both of them loved it! I tried to fish a little bit while we were out there, but both boys wanted to keep moving and weren't interested in what might be at the end of my line.
It was Harris' first canoe ride, and I was a little nervous about him sitting still, but he did great and had the best time!
I wish I thought about doing this more often!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Congratulations to the Sander Family on their new arrivals!

Little School Pumpkin Patch Trip

The Little School had their annual trip to the Boone Hall Pumpkin Patch a couple of weeks ago, and I just realized I hadn't posted about it! I chaperoned Harris' class, but I got to see lots of Jackson, too. The little ones got to go on a haunted hayride, play in the maze and amidst the pumpkins, and pick out their very on pumpkins.
This is Harris with one of his girlfriends, Davis. He is constantly talking about Davis, so it was fun to watch them play together.
This is his buddy, Wilson... Harris loved watching and copying everything Wilson did.
Another girlfriend, Emma Hollis. Here they were watching the goats munch on their breakfast.
Harris' twos class.
Jackson's fours class. Both boys brought home perfect pumpkins from their trip to the patch... a great reward for a great day!

Brother Love

October 2006
October 2007
Both Jackson and Harris were a little under the weather this weekend, but we were also fighting a bit of cabin fever. Jason was out of town, so I loaded the boys up and drug them to the Farmer's Market.
It was a beautiful day, and while it wasn't a super-exciting trip, I did get some great pictures that I wanted to share.

New York Boat Trip

I have to admit, I have been putting off posting about my most recent boat trip with Dad. Not because I didn't have an incredible time, but more because I haven't been able to find the right words to sum it all up. It was an amazing time, and for some reason, it has affected me (in a good way!) more than I expected. So, while I am going to try my best, I am going to suggest you read Caroline's blog along with mine. As of this minute, I haven't read her account of the trip, not wanting it to change what I post. I am also going to go heavy on the pictures, as I think they will definitely be worth more than my words!

Schenectady, NY to Coeymans, NY

Caroline and I left Charleston and arrived in Albany, NY on Wednesday evening. After a short ride into Schenctady, we arrived at the Schenectady Yacht Club to meet Dad. After settling in and a walk along the docks, he grilled us some yummy dinner... steaks and chicken.

It was a beautful morning once the fog cleared... sunny, warm, and perfect for a boat ride.

Pulling away from the Schenectady Yacht Club.

This was Progress Adventure #5 for Dad and me, and each and every one has been different. I was so excited to see what this adventure had in store for us.

Caroline took the controls for a brief moment... she didn't want to miss a bit of what was going on around her!

We were far enough north that the leaves had definitely started to change colors.

Dad had saved for us a series of locks on the Erie Canal called the Waterford Flight. There are about seven locks all right in a row. I think Caroline was really excited to try the whole lock experience, and I think Dad and I were even more excited to show her how it is done! Above is the dam on the other side of the lock.

Caroline grabbing a line at her first lock.

Showing her how it is done!

There were several boats that traveled through the Flight with us. The locks actually seemed a little crowded!

Congratulations! Her first lock!

Sometimes the wait for the lock to open gets a little boring...

After making it through all of the locks, turning into the Hudson River, and passing Troy and Albany, we arrived at Coeymans, NY. After an interesting run/walk, we headed for an early dinner and an early bedtime... the next day was to be another big one.
